Could be input shaft bearing, drive shaft etc. If it's metallic then definitely not a good sign. Either way a recon gearbox for ford ka might set you back around £360 + fitting which is obviously a lot less than £1200!!! You also get a 12 month warranty or 12000 miles Throw in a new clutch as well and you should be good to go.

291 posts · Joined 2017. #1 · Jan 8, 2021. Hello all, So after 141k miles the gearbox is finally giving up and is making it hard to change gear when warm and a noise on the overrun. A near perfect rebuild is up to £800, maybe can get it done cheaper and though my old clutch is 30k miles old, guess it best to put a new 2 part kit in as well.

Gears left of neutral (i.e. 1st and second) wouldn't spring back but would on the other side. It turned out to be something called a gear lever return spring which is a common fault on the IB5 gearboxes.
